Carlsberg ADHD-Friendly Kid Bedroom
Turning a small and awkward room into a kid’s dream space to play, rest, and feel safe.
This child bedroom in Carlsberg Byen measures 10 square metres. Before, it held a 120 cm bed, an armchair and a wardrobe, and only 1.5 square metres were left for play. We redesigned it as an ADHD-friendly room where a child can play, rest and feel safe. The idea was simple: build upward and give the floor back to play. We drew the plan, the details needed to build it, and a calm palette of colours and materials.

Design decisions
The room is built upward.
A large 120 by 200 cm bed sits on a raised platform, with storage in its headboard and a ladder to climb up. Below it, a 90 by 200 cm bed fills a nook, with curtains that can be drawn, shelves for books and drawers underneath. From the upper bed, a catamaran net stretches to the opposite wall, which gives a place to climb, lie and play above the floor. A tall wardrobe and a drawing desk by the window complete the room. Storage grows from 1.8 to 2.2 cubic metres, and play space from 1.5 to 7 square metres. The curtained nook gives a small, enclosed place to retreat to, and each activity has its own zone: sleep, storage, play and drawing. The colours stay soft. The walls are Farrow & Ball Parma Grey, with a cream trim and a Deep Reddish Brown accent, alongside oak, blue and cream stripes and brass details. The photos show the finished room: the net overhead, the curtained nook and the white wardrobes.
