Carlsberg Green Bedroom
A small entrance transformed into a bedroom with built-in wardrobes, office space and a reading nook.
This room in Carlsberg Byen started out as a small entrance. It now had to work as a bedroom, with space for clothes, a desk and a corner to sit and read. The room is narrow, with a small alcove by the window. We started from our client’s own sketch of a wardrobe wall. From there we made a floor plan, measured drawings, a list of modules and a scheme of colours and materials.

Design decisions
The plan puts the bed in the alcove by the window, so it sits a little apart from the rest of the room.
A desk and chair stand under the second window. Along the long wall runs one built-in wardrobe wall, which also frames the doorway. The wall is made from standard IKEA units: PAX wardrobes 100 and 50 cm wide, an open PAX frame at one end and a 40 cm BILLY bookcase at the other. In the middle, two 50 cm PAX units are cut down to 45 cm to make a low chest of drawers. Above it sits a reading nook with a seat cushion, topped by a cabinet made from the offcut. Our modules breakdown lists every unit and its size, so the wall can be planned and bought piece by piece. For colour we chose a deep green for the walls and green fronts with brass handles, together with oak and linen. Burgundy, striped and patterned cushions, two scalloped pendant lamps, a velvet headboard and a wooden desk and armchair complete the style concept.
